Speedway fans from the Lakeside area are in for a double delight on Good Friday (22nd April) at the Arena-Essex Raceway as the Lakeside Hammers will join forces with the newly reformed Hackney Hawks to offer a full afternoon of racing.
The action will start at 1pm when the Elite League Hammers will be in local derby action against the Eastbourne Eagles and this will be followed by the first National League match for the Hackney Hawks against opposition that will shortly to be confirmed.
The Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: “The Good Friday double header is a great way to start the Hackney Hawks league season and it will still give fans more than enough time to enjoy both meetings before heading south to the Arlington Stadium for the evening return match between the Hammers and the Eagles. I am sure our fans will want to stay on and cheer both Shane Hazelden and Marc Owen in Hawks colours and having reached a training agreement with Eastbourne their fans can also look forward to seeing their young prospect Brandon Freemantle in action for Hackney.”
Continued Cook: “The return of the Hawks has been exceptionally well received and I hope Hammers fans will particularly get behind young Shane and Marc in this initial year of National League racing at our Raceway and then, as the season goes on, other full Hammers assets as they progress. It is going to be a very exciting venture although, because of time constraints, this will be the only time that the two sides will share track time on the same day. The Hawks will take centre stage mainly in the June and July period where international clashes make it impossible to regularly run at Elite level on Friday evenings.”
The Club has confirmed that admission prices for stand alone Hackney Hawks meetings will be £12 for adults, £10 for concessions and £2 for children. All Lakeside Hammers Season Ticket holders will be entitled to a 50% discount on these prices plus a free programme for the Hawks home events that will be staged at the Arena-Essex Raceway.
