Mear takes the major awards

Friday evening saw the Hammers end the season with a night of celebration in the Raceway Tavern.
In front of a large number of fans and sponsors Hammers Promoter, Jon Cook, and Team Manager, Neil Vatcher, plus riders Kim Nilsson and Stuart Robson started the evening answering question from the fans. This was an interesting session with Jon Cook, in particular, giving those present some insight into the running of the Club with some very honest answers to questions asked.

Following a buffet Jon then interviewed the riders present and this proved very entertaining and further showed the great team spirit within the Club.

The various awards were then made before the evening concluded with a disco.

The main award, The Hammers Rider of the Year, which was voted on by supporters online and at the last home meeting staged at the Raceway, was awarded to the young Hammers reserve, Robert Mear. The Shield, which has been awarded since 1984, was presented to Robert by Neil Vatcher.

In addition Sandra Gibbons made the regular monthly awards that she and her husband Steve have been making for many years. The ‘Rider of the Month’ for September was Peter Ljung, who unfortunately was not able to be at the event. The October award went to Kim Nilsson whilst their ‘Hammers Rider of the Season’ went to Robert Mear.
