Davey Watt – better news -21st June

Update: Saturday 21st June.

Hammers Captain Davey Watt has posted the following on his social channels.

Ok good news ! So I’m happy to say that after the initial diagnosis of fractured vertebrae, I’ve had 2 other senior doctors look at my scans and confirmed that nothing is broken. I’m just pretty beaten up so will have a bit of time off and be back racing soon. Feeling like hell right now but am super happy that I didn’t break anything. Scary few days but now I can push ahead getting back into racing. Thanks for all the messages. Unbelievable to see all the support. Stoked !

Great news Davey.

Vortex Hammers captain Davey Watt suffered a fracture of both his T3 & 4 vertebra in a track crash on Thursday evening, early indications are that he will be facing a period of around six weeks on the sidelines.

In the absence of suitable guest replacement for this evenings fixture against The King’s Lynn Stars, with riders already in Croatia & Poland for the GP qualifiers tomorrow and any available riders already involved in tonight’s two Elite fixtures, the club will operate Rider Replacement for Davey, meaning all riders are eligible to replace him.

Hammers Co-Promoter Jon Cook commented “I am in contact with Watty and he is seeing the doctors later today so I’ll update fans tonight. There’s never a good time to take an injury and certainly not 24hrs before a crucial fixture, but after tonight we enter our quietest period of the season with free weeks for the Danish & British GP, so hopefully he won’t miss too many meetings and Neil Vatcher will be booking replacements once our new averages for July come out next week.”

Looking ahead to tonight’s fixture against The Stars, Cook added “We are super determined to win tonight and I suspect we are about to witness one of the matches of mine & Stuarts rein at the Raceway!”
