A tribute to Bryn Williams

IMG_1412

I first met Bryn at my local track, Crayford, in the late 1960’s when the team were called The Highwaymen and then regularly met up with him at Hackney and following their closure, at the Arena Essex Raceway.

When I officially got involved with the Hammers back in 2000, Bryn was a great help to me teaching me how to put together a Speedway programme.

Over the years Bryn had been editing several programmes for tracks on top of announcing or timekeeping at many, including tracks abroad in Australia during his regular visits there.

He also classed his weekly trips to the Isle of Wight as ‘Overseas meetings”!

He also did guest programme columns for many other tracks and refereed numerous Amateur meetings.

Over the years I have either travelled with Bryn and others, or taken him to most tracks up and down the Country and wherever we went he always knew people there to chat to.

Speedway was Bryn’s life over the time I knew him and I know that he became frustrated when his health problems resulted in him not being able to make his annual trip to Australia or go to Speedway meetings in the UK at least five days a week.

I will always remember our regular trips together to King’s Lynn and the Isle of Wight many years ago and then going to virtually all the Premier and Elite League away meetings with the Hammers until a couple of years ago.

I will miss Bryn as a good mate and will remember him as someone who loved his Speedway and whenever I needed help about facts for programmes he was the fountain of all knowledge.

RIP Bryn.
