Busy weekend for Hammers. KO Cup Preview
Three Lakeside riders face late fitness checks ahead of Sunday’s Knockout Cup home and away double against defending Champions the Peterborough Panthers.
Adam Ellis and Zach Wajtknecht are both carrying knocks following crashes last weekend while Kyle Newman continues to push for a return after sustaining a wrist injury last month.
Heat-leader Nick Morris is forced to miss the clashes due to Polish play-off commitments with Rzeszow, so Berwick’s Aaron Summers guests.
It’s a bumper day of action for the Hammers who host the first leg at Rye House at 2pm, with the return at the East of England Arena at 7pm.
Team Manager Will Pottinger said:
“There’s little margin for error with two matches in one day as we look to come out on top after 30 heats and progress to face Scunthorpe in the semi-finals.
Moving home tracks from Lakeside to Rye House means that the big home track advantage that we used to enjoy has been wiped away.
We could sulk and feel sorry for ourselves about this but that would achieve nothing, so we’ve got to adapt to our new home track as quickly as we possibly can.”
“It won’t be easy as our opponents Peterborough are as familiar with this track as what we are.
“But the aim is to build on the encouraging signs we displayed last weekend and build up a lead to take to Peterborough on Sunday night.”
