Campaign update: Developer meeting

As mentioned on the BBC Essex Sport show, the Hammers met with Daniel Cavanagh of London Strategic Land, the owners and developers of the Arena Essex site, on Thursday 29th November.

The main objective of the meeting was to get clarity on London Strategic Land’s development plans, which are now available to view on Thurrock Council’s website here  and at northlakeessex.com.

Community Liaison Manager Mark Sexton commented

“The meeting was productive and extremely cordial, and explored areas where both parties could work together, but while London Strategic Land is supportive of the club’s campaign to restore the Hammers to Thurrock, unfortunately their plans do not extend to building a replacement track anywhere on the Arena Essex site. “

Discussions however about London Strategic Land making ‘Section 106’ contributions are ongoing with Thurrock Council and funds made available under these ‘Section 106’ arrangements are a potential source of compensation for the club’s displacement. Thurrock Council makes the final judgement on how Section 106 monies are allotted.

Dialogue will continue with all interested parties and information will be made available as it is received or available.
