Amateur Racing at The Raceway

Due to the Speedway World Cup taking place this week there is no Elite League racing at our Arena Essex Raceway this evening.

However to allow our supporters to be able to watch some Speedway on what is expected to be another hot day the Club will be staging an Amateur Meeting at the Raceway.

There will be a total of thirty two heats of racing divided into three classes, which will see riders of differing ages and experience competing on 140cc, 250cc and 500cc bikes.

This is the first time that the Club have staged such an event and it will allow fans to see riders who are either taking part just for fun or looking to start at the lower end of the Sport. The overall strength is likely to be just below the third tier of racing in this Country and it will be an excellent opportunity of seeing young British riders taking their early steps up the ladder in the Sport.

Some of the competitors regularly attend our Training Schools or have started on the Hagon Shocks Speedway Academy, which runs every Saturday on the Club’s Training track.

The staging of tonight’s meeting has been made possible with the assistance of Martin Hagon of Hagon Shocks, Russell Paine, who runs the ‘Ride N Slide Dayz’ and Gerald Richter , the Hammers track curator, along with his band of helpers. In addition the Club wishes to thank the various sponsors and advertisers for their support of this event.

Competing in the 500cc event, which will be run over 20 heats with each of the sixteen riders having five rides are (in alphabetical order):

Hunter Anderson, Adam Briggs, Scott Campos, Sam Chapman, Jamie Couzins, Kelsey Dugard, Joe Exley, Martin Pearce, Richard Pearce, Simon Pearce, Adam Sheppard, Simon Tillman, Danno Verge, Jon Vernam, Charles Wallace, and Alec Wright, plus reserve Hayden Simms.

The riders in the 140cc class are (in alphabetical order):-

Nathan Ablitt, Kieran Andrews, Kyle Bickley, Jason Edwards, Kai Hubbard, Jordan Jenkins, and Sam Stead.

Tom Brennan and Lewis Whitmore will complete the riders taking part and will be riding their 250cc bikes.

The action gets underway at the Raceway this evening at the earlier start time of 7.30pm and the action is expected to be fast and furious with 32 heats of racing expected to be completed before 10pm.

The Vortex Hammers 2013 Season Tickets will be valid for this evening’s meeting and the admission price for everyone else will be £5 apart from Children up to and including the age of sixteen, who will be admitted free of charge. A special racecard for this event will be on sale at the entry gates.
