Bees stung by Vortex Hammers

This comfortable home win for the Vortex Hammers over the Coventry Bees was achieved with a very solid team performance with the top six riders all paid for at least eight points.

Sebastian Ulamek’s home debut for the Vortex Hammers saw a well deserved and well taken paid eleven points haul, a tally which included an impressive three race wins in his first four outings. The Polish star led the home scorechart alongside a determined Lewis Bridger (paid thirteen points) and reserve Richard Lawson, who turned in one of his best performances in Vortex Hammers colurs in securing paid twelve points.

The visitors had the evening’s top man in Krzysztof Kasprzak, returning to one of his old tracks and slamming in a twenty point haul – exactly half of his side’s forty points. The Polish Grand Prix star saw his colours lowered only once when Bridger produced a great ride in heat six to speed past his opponent on the second turn and hold on for the win.

Bridger’s form throughout was impressive and the opening race saw him narrowly miss out to Kasprzak in what was the first of their three races. The early outings in particular was very closely fought with some good racing as Davey Watt summeed up the mood in the home camp by claiming a from the back win in heat four.

The Vortex Hammers had the evening’s other star in Lawson, who was excellent all night and thoroughly deserved his paid twelve points haul. Three unbeaten opening rides were just reward for some very consistent gating and his form bodes well for the Hammers and their new look side head into the business end of the season looking for an Elite League play-off place.
