Hammers complete their squad

It’s five days and counting for supporters of the Lakeside Hammers as the new season of Elite League Speedway gets under way this Friday at the Arena-Essex Raceway with an exciting summer of action in store for all.

The Hammers have strengthened their squad on the eve of the season by confirming Czech Republic international and Club asset Lubos Tomicek in the number 8 back up position following the rider’s short term loan to Newcastle in the Premier League.

Tomicek was a full time Hammer in the Club’s Play Off final reaching team of 2008 but has struggled to hold down a regular UK berth since then. However, he has remained a firm favourite with the Essex faithful and endeared himself further with a one off appearance for the Club last season.

Hammers Team Manager Jon Cook commented on this addition to the squad by stating: “We named Lubos in our original squad way back in January but were unable to confirm his place under the regulations until he had secured a team place in the Premier League. His short contract with Newcastle allows us to do that now and I am sure he will take any opportunities that come his way and provide us with a good back up when needed.”

The Hammers take on Swindon at the Arena-Essex Raceway this Friday, 25th March, with tapes up at 8.00pm.
