GB recognise Mear

The Lakeside Hammers will stage the 2nd Ashes Speedway Test between Team GB and Australia on Friday 3rd June at their Arena-Essex Raceway with added pride with the news that up and coming Hammers youngster Robert Mear will be handed his first cap by Team GB manager Neil Middleditch.

Mear has been the darling of Essex fans this season and has endeared himself to many supporters on his travels with his all action style and his call up comes after his best week so far with sterling efforts at both Peterborough, where he headed Australian World Cup star Troy Batchelor, and Coventry, where he diced with GB No.1 Chris Harris, as well as a season best paid 12 points in the Hammers home match last Saturday against King’s Lynn.

There is also more good news for fans. To celebrate the inclusion Robert Mear in the GB team Hammers Promoters Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook are cutting kids admissions to the event in half term week to just £1.

GB Manager Neil Middleditch stated on his decision to include the young Hammers rider in his GB team: “Robert impressed me when I saw him earlier this month and his enthusiasm to ride for his Country when we spoke was exactly what we all want to hear from our riders. He has made an ambitious decision to jump straight into the Elite League and it’s great to be able to recognise and reward that. I hope other youngsters follow his lead.”

The Hammers team Owner Stuart Douglas was clearly delighted with the decision to select Mear and stated: “I am sure this selection will give everyone at the Club great pride. To see a young Hammers rider having made such a mark in such a short space of time is amazing and I can’t wait to see him in full flow around our Raceway with the Union Jacket on his chest”.

Full admission details for the Ashes Test match are as follows: Adults £17.50, Concessions £13 with Kids aged 6 to 16 just £1.
