Hammers cup hopes end

The Lakeside Hammers hopes of KO Cup success in 2012 ended as the Coventry Bees won convincingly at The Raceway, 38 – 49 (79 -101 on aggregate) with the meeting abandoned by mutual agreement after heat 14 as heavy rain began to fall.

Both Hammers heat leaders Peter Karlsson and Davey Watt returned double figure scores with 12 and 11 points respectively, but lacked any major support on a night of exclusions, falls and machine problems.

For the Bees’ captain Chris Harris, Eddie Kennett and Kenni Larsen all returned double figure scores, but the visiting team as a whole were sharper from the gate and adapted to track conditions more effectively than the Hammers.

The Hammers must now pick themselves up for their away match infront of the Sky Sports cameras this Bank Holiday Monday when they travel to the East of England Showground to take on the Peterborough Panthers.

On a positive note, Hammers reserve Richie Worrall successfully navigated his World U21 Semi-final in Germany to qualify for the World U21 Championship series.
