Hunter will start on a 4-point average with Bowtell on 4.21 and more names are set to follow after the National League AGM which Hammers chiefs are attending on Tuesday.

They are expected to be one of two new applicants to join the league with Plymouth Devils also hoping to continue at that level.

Hammers promoter Jon Cook said: “We’re pleased to make a start with George and Alfie, they are two riders we feel can improve their average.

“There has been no shortage of riders calling us which is extremely flattering. And for us to have the experience and knowledge of Kelvin Tatum, who spent a glittering career at the very top of the sport, on board is excellent and the youngsters will learn so much from working with him.”

Meanwhile new-boy Hunter said: “Lakeside is a big club with a good reputation and I’m excited about joining them. I’m looking forward to the new season already.”
