Hammers Duo Recognised

The Hammers opening Elite League fixture victory against Wolverhampton started equally sweetly for Club co-promoters, Jon Cook and Stuart Douglas, as they were presented with a highly prestigious BBC Award.

Dave Victor, sports presenter with BBC London 94.9, was on hand to present the award for ‘The Outstanding Contribution to London Sport 2010’ – the incumbent recipient being no less than Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger.

“It’s an incredible honour,” said Douglas. “To have speedway acknowledged in this way by the BBC is fantastic, particularly in the capital where the people have access to some of the best sports and clubs in the World.

“We have worked hard with the Hammers to keep our great sport vibrant in London and the South East, and I’m thrilled that people like what we are doing. Hopefully, with the resurrection of the Hackney Hawks, also racing this year at Arena Essex, we have another of the region’s historic speedway names back to entertain the public.

“Thank you to BBC London 94.9 and all who voted for this amazing award.”
