Hammers look for big Awayday

As the Lakeside Hammers travel to Elite League newcomers Birmingham tonight, co-promoter Jon Cook has issued a rallying call after Monday night’s performance at Kings Lynn.

Cook commented” It was a night to forget for all of the boys, with the exception of Robert Mear who showed the  kind of attitude and determination that makes us believe he will be a trump card at reserve for us.  Although it will be our first competitive fixture at Perry Bar, all of the boys are pumped up for tonight and are very determined to put what happened on Monday well and truly behind us”.

All roads then lead back to the Raceway on Friday and the prestigious British Under 21 final, which will see Hammers assets Jerran Hart, Marc Owen and Shane Hazelden compete alongside pre-meeting favourites Lewis Bridger and Tai Woffinden.  The first race starts at the slightly earlier time of 7.45pm.

Owen and Hazelden, in particular, will be fired up having secured a valuable point in The Hackney Hawks first competitive meeting in the National League at Kings Lynn last night. Owen teamed up with Barrie Evans for a tactical 8-1 in heat 13, then the same pairing securing a 4-2 in the final race to bring a point back for the Hawks.

In other news Club co-promoters Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook, have also announced a new car sharing initiative to try and help Hammers fans with the expense of travelling.

“We have a number of supporters fortunate enough to be able to attend away meetings, and the riders really appreciate their efforts,” said Douglas. “We are very aware of the ever increasing cost of fuel, and the burden this can place on our supporters.  We are therefore launching a facility to enable supporters to swap information on travel plans with a view to car sharing.

There will be a noticeboard in the Hammers Club Cabin on the first bend, where supporters can leave information relating to their journey, together with contact information.  Space permitting, we will also replicate this information in the Hammers programme and will also look to create a noticeboard facility within the main Hammers website”.

Supporters can also submit their information to the club – for inclusion in the programme – via email to supportteam@lakesidehammer.com
