Happiness is 50-43 for the Vortex Hammers

The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook picked out Aussie reserve Kevin Doolan for special praise as the Essex side re-established their claim for a Play Off finish with a seven point win over rivals Kings Lynn.

Despite running eight last places as a team with only Captain Davey Watt in top form, boss Jon Cook commented after the match: “We were inconsistent on the night and had to overcome a poor decision in heat five but the team responded well to our defeat here a fortnight ago and we are firmly back in the race.

“All the lads except Davey will look back on at least one ride where they know they could have done better and that’s a good thing when we have still gained the maximum available three League points”.

On Doolan, Cook said: “Fair play to Kev. He was an absolute pro when we spoke on Tuesday about our team change and to return at less than 24 hours notice and score paid seven crucial points speaks volumes.”

The action at the Raceway continues next Friday, 2nd August, when new Elite League leaders Birmingham are the visitors.
