Mikkel visits Beacon Hill Academy in South Ockendon

Lakeside Hammers’ rising Danish star Mikkel Bech was delighted to be invited to visit Beacon Hill Academy in South Ockendon recently. Beacon Hill is a school for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties and a specialist college for young people with sensory and physical needs.

A recent Speedway Star article described how Mikkel is inspired and motivated by a family friend called Mille Mastrup who suffers from a debilitating condition that requires constant medical attention including several operations per year and his empathy and support for the young people at the Academy, all of whom are dealing with significant challenges, was clearly evident throughout his visit.

The youngsters and staff were absolutely thrilled to meet Mikkel and to have the opportunity to ask him questions about how he started in speedway and his career to date. Most of all, they were really excited by the opportunity to hear the roar of his bike and, for some, to have the opportunity to get aboard!
