Support group set up for injured star

The world of speedway racing was rocked to the core when news reached the UK from Australia that recently retired international star Leigh Adams had been seriously injured whilst practicing for the annual Finke Desert race in his homeland.

The ultra- popular 40 year old – a former Hammers skipper in the mid-1990’s – retired from the world speedway stage at the beginning of this year after first arriving in the UK in 1989, and was a star performer throughout his illustrious career both here, in Sweden and Poland as well as on the World stage itself and so news of his tragic accident has come as a great shock to all.

He sustained very extensive injuries that, according to an official statement issued included extensive spinal cord damage, punctured lungs, fractured vertebrae and broken ribs and is recuperating in hospital in Adelaide having been flown there to undergo an extensive six hour long operation to stabilise his condition.

A ‘Leigh Adams Love & Support group’ was set up on the popular social internet network Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com ) by one of Leigh’s many close friends, renowned sports photographer Mike Patrick, last Thursday and amply demonstrating the high esteem in which the stricken speedway star is held in, a staggering 725 people had joined the group and left messages of support as at 7.30pm today! The group is easy to join but, alternatively messages can be emailed to awzv22@dsl.pipex.com and they will be placed on the group on your behalf.

Patrick is urging fans to keep their messages of support flowing saying, “I am in touch with Leigh’s wife Kylie so Leigh himself will get to read such messages when he’s well enough to do so and I know they will help him on the long road to, hopefully, to a full recovery from his injuries that he now faces. In addition I’ll be posting any press releases or further news I receive from Kylie immediately I receive same.”
