Three more points for Hammers
The Hammers continued their quest for the Elite League play-offs with this comfortable success over Swindon Robins.
The home side were in determined mood right from the early part of the meeting when both Robert Mear and Kim Nilsson overhauled Sergey Darkin in heat two The win gave Mear the first of three wins as he went on to rack up a superb paid thirteen points haul.
Hammers tracked guests in the form of Cameron Woodward and Davey Watt, with Watt suffering an inauspicious start to proceedings when he crashed out during the first lap of heat four. He soon dusted himself down and recovered, however, to remain otherwise unbeaten for the rest of the meeting.
Despite the relevant comfort of the scoreline, there was plenty of good action for fans to savour: Scott Nicholls rounded Lee Richardson on the final bend of heat one; Richardson and Maciej Janowski passed and re-passed in heat six before the Pole got the edge; whilst Watt produced a superb move to burst into first place and prevent a Robins’ tactical move in heat nine.
It took a Richardson/Swiderski 5-1 over Nicholls to really settle the meeting in favour of the Hammers as far as the full points allocation was concerned and a cracking heat fourteen saw the meeting end on a high as Mear rode a superb first lap to drive past Darkin for the third of his wins.
