Hammers claim all the points at Belle Vue
The Lakeside Hammers continued their unbeaten run on Monday evening when they claimed all four Sky Sports Elite League points with a nine point win up in Manchester when they defeated the famous Belle Vue Aces.
A delighted Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: “It was a great team performance with the lads claiming eleven out of the possible fifteen heat wins and that included four maximum 5-1 heat advantages. If I was asked to single out one of the team for special praise it would have to be Richie Worrall, our young double up rider at reserve.
He was making his debut for us following last Friday’s match at our Raceway finally being called off by the referee following rain. And what a debut it was! He scored ten points plus two bonus points from his five rides and was only beaten by a home rider in heat nine, when he finished at the back. All of the team, apart from Rob (Robert Mear), claimed at least one paid win and that is no mean feat away from home.”
Cook continued: “We have decided to use the same seven riders for this coming Friday, when Wolves will be visiting our Raceway and that means that our fans will be able to see Richie in action around our track for the first time. I’m sure he will get a great reception from our supporters following on from that fantastic performance on Monday.”
The Hammers Team Manager, Neil Vatcher, was equally delighted with his team’s performance stating: “After the opening couple of shared heats, which saw Richie gain his first win in Hammers colours in heat No.2, we dominated the meeting. Heat No.6 was an important one for us as it saw Lee (Richardson ) superbly combine with young Richie to see off the Aces No.1 Rory Schlein.
Despite the Aces hitting back with a 5-1 in the next heat we held our nerve to gain a 5-1 ourselves in heat No.8. After heat No.10 we were 10 points up and the Aces fans thought there was a glimmer of hope for their team as Charlie (Gjedde) took a Tactical Ride and combined with Linus Eklof to gain a 7-2 heat advantage over us. That reduced our lead to five points but Davey (Watt) and Richie took maximum points in the next heat to increase our lead up to nine points. A 4-2 in heat 13 sealed the win for us and despite conceding a 5-1 in the penultimate heat we went into the final race knowing that a shared heat would give us the extra League point for winning by more than six points. PK (Peter Karlsson) won that heat and with Davey in third place the four points were in the bag and the celebrations could start.
Vatcher concluded by saying: “We now need to concentrate on Friday’s home match against the Wolves, who, in the past, have performed well at our Raceway. The lads are all totally committed to further extend our winning run and with Robbo (Stuart Robson) and Richie in the line-up we will field the same seven riders who did the club proud up in Manchester.”
The Elite League action against Wolverhampton gets underway at the Arena Essex Raceway on Friday with the parade of riders scheduled for 7.45pm and first race at 8pm. There will also be an Anglian Junior League match that sees the Young Hammers take on Rye House and that will be over six heats starting at 6.45pm.
