Vortex Hammers winning run comes to an end

The Vortex Hammers unbeaten run came to an end at Wolverhampton on Monday as the home side took two 5-1’s in Heats 14 and 15 to seal all three Sky Sports Elite League points.

Despite the season’s worst performances from Captain Davey Watt  and Piotr Swiderski the Vortex Hammers led the for much of the match led by an inspired performance from Peter Karlsson and another stunning display from reserve Richard Lawson, which included a superb victory over veteran multi British Champion Scott Nicholls but with only Lewis Bridger and Seb Ulamek providing significant support the Essex side were eventually overhauled by the current League leaders.

Jon Cook, the Vortex Hammers Co Promoter, commented after just this defeat stating: “Our feet are firmly back on the ground after a great run of seven wins on the trot and we now need to set up for revenge against the Wolves, who are our next visitors to the Arena Essex Raceway a week on Friday (21st June). Several riders weren’t at their best tonight but we win or lose as a team and we can put that right quickly on the 21st.”

The defeat comes just days after the first fine summer weather had seen a crowd of over 1500 pack the Arena Essex Raceway to see the Vortex sponsored Lakeside Hammers side easily see off the Poole Pirates and Cook concluded: “It’s important we don’t let one defeat ruin the feel good factor and concentrate on the many positives our turn in form has brought
