Next Steps and on track ACTION!

Following an in depth article in the most recent edition of the Speedway Star and a live radio interview on BBC Essex Sport, the newly formed Thurrock Hammers Ltd are now very much in the ‘public’ consciousness and the team behind the project face an exciting and challenging few weeks which should well and truly kick-start the campaign to return speedway to the south west Essex borough.

As previously stated, the single objective of the company is to return speedway, and the Hammers, to Thurrock and the need to keep the club name alive is important to achieving that goal.

To that end, and thanks to Len Silver and his Kent Kings, the Thurrock Hammers will take to the track on Monday 6th May at Central Park, Sittingbourne (4pm) for an NL Challenge fixture.

Team building is progressing well and several riders well known to Hammers fans have already committed to the meeting. The complete line up will made released as soon as possible.

Away from the track, however, the major challenge facing the new company is securing investment and land to begin the building of a new track within Thurrock.

The new owners (London Strategic Land) of the Club’s former home at the Arena Essex Raceway have already submitted a Planning Application for consideration by Thurrock Council (click here to view the Application)

It had been understood that this application was to be heard next Thursday 25th April, but the item is now NOT on the agenda and therefore will be heard later in the year.

A club representative has already been afforded the opportunity to speak before the committee at the meeting when it does take place.

The delay to the planning process, however, gives the management, advisers and supporters the opportunity to engage with important decision makers, especially in the run up to the local elections on May 2nd.  A list of prospective candidates can be found here

You can also show your support by contacting the Head of Regeneration at Thurrock Council, Cllr Mark Coxshall, using the pre-prepared letter that is available on the new Thurrock Hammers website here
