A return to winning ways

Hammers responded to Jon Cook’s call for more bite from the team with a thumping 61-32 demolition of King Lynn. Without Piotr Swiderski and Peter Ljung the Hammers operated rider replacement and drafted in Ryan Fisher against a full strength Stars side.

Heat 1 saw Lee Richardson pass Kenneth Bjerre to join Kauko Nieminen on a 5-1 and that set the tone for the first 5 races. Step up Stuart Robson – ever the entertainer, Robbo produced passes in his first three rides to help put the Hammers up 23-7 by Heat 5. Indeed Ht 5 was Robbo’s ride of the night as he caught and passed Tactical Rider Kenneth Bjerre and Tomas Topinka for a 5-1 with Adam Shields.

There was much determination in evidence in Ht 4 which took 3 goes to run it as Iversen and Guest Fisher came down in each of the first two. Fisher would finish the meeting with a hand injury but not before riding some entertaining races.

The Stars second Tactical ride saw Kornelliusen score their only heat advantage in Ht 7 before the Hammers confidence round the first turns started to show and they finished with 4 consecutive heat advantages.

Kings Lynn relied heavily on Iversen and Kornelliusen but were no match for the Hammers in this determined mood.

Rob Mear again put in a solid performance, and with Shields, Nieminen and Richardson all contributing good points the Hammers second 60 point haul of the season was a welcome relief to the home support.
