Perry earns Great Britain U21 call up

KYLE Newman has been ruled out of the Great Britain team for the World Under-21 Team Cup semi-final which takes place this Sunday at the Raceway at Lakeside.

The unlucky Newman suffered a small fracture to his collarbone in a crash at Ipswich on Thursday, and his place goes to Dudley’s Tom Perry – ironically a team-mate of Newman at Somerset.

GB co-boss Phil Morris said: “It’s a blow for us and big shame for Kyle that he has had to withdraw, and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

“But I’m sure Tom will be determined to take his chance, he’s having a great season and rode so well in the British Under-21 Final so this is a real opportunity for him.”

The gates at the Arena Essex Raceway will open on Sunday at 2.30pm with the parade of riders scheduled for 4pm and the first of the 25 races at 4.15pm. There are large free car parking areas at the Raceway
