Pirates plunder points

The Poole Pirates were triumphant in this early season top of the table clash against the Hammers. The visitors were led by the Elite League’s top two riders – Chris Holder and Darcy Ward – who both collected paid maximums and managed to edge their noses in front in heat twelve when Ward produced a quite brilliant ride to overhaul Davey Watt for the win.

Holder started proceedings off with a win over Peter Karlsson and kept his unbeaten run going largely from the gate where he was rarely troubled save a third to first sprint past Lee Richardson down the first lap backstraight in heat eleven. Ward’s evening, though, was vastly different as he produced at least three from-the-back victories on his way to a spectacular full score.

Ward’s evening kicked off in heat seven he got the battle of Richardson having been passeed himself by the Lakeside man. Excitement continued with his pass over Watt before culminating in a last race pass on Karlsson in the last.

For the home side, it was an evening of disappointment with several key points dropped or opportunities missed when the top Aussie duo were not present. The bright light was the home debut of reserve Richie Worrall, who produced an excellent eight points return from the reserve berth including two race victories.
