Shane finishes second in U-19 final

Lakeside Hammers asset Shane Hazelden finished in second place in Saturday night’s British U-21 Final, which took place at Rye House. The Hammers other asset in the meeting was Marc Owen, who failed to reach the final stages despite scoring 8 points in the qualification races.

After the 20 qualification heats the leading scorer with 14 points was Ben Morley, who competes for the Hackney Hawks in the National League. Hazelden, who also rides for the Hawks, was second highest scorer on 12 points and this placed them directly into the Final.

The next four highest scorers progressed into a semi final with the top two in that race joining Morley and Hazelden in the Final. The semi was contested by Kyle Howarth (11 points), Jason Garrity (10), James Sarjeant (10) and Joe Jacobs (10). It was Garrity and Sarjeant who finished 1st and 2nd respectively and joined the two Hackney Hawks riders in the Final.

At the second attempt to run the Final it was the Belle Vue’s National League rider  rider Jason Garrity who took the win with Shane Hazelden second and Ben Morley third.

Neil Vatcher and Phil Morris, who are part of the GB team Management Team, were present at the meeting. Vatcher is also the Lakeside Hammers Team Manager whilst Morris is a former Hammers rider.
