Diamonds v Hammers Preview

Lakeside boss Will Pottinger admits his side will “battle on” despite losing Kyle Newman as well as Richard Lawson for tonight’s clash at Newcastle.

The Hammers go to Brough Park without the two key men after Newman picked up a hand injury in the horrible crash with Workington’s Dan Bewley last night.

Lawson was already missing from the match in Cumbria due to illness and once again rider replacement will be used at Newcastle. Josh Pickering has been drafted in as a late guest for the absent Newman.

Pottinger said: “It’s been a difficult weekend all round really. We had our home fixture rained-off against Newcastle and last night at Workington was obviously not nice at all.

“There was no option but to abandon the meeting due to the injuries to Dan Bewley and our best wishes from the club go to him for a speedy recovery.

“Kyle was involved in the awful crash and injured his hand. We are not sure to what extent but he’s certainly unable to race today.

“We just need to battle on despite the setbacks. Josh is a track specialist at Newcastle so we go there to keep fighting.”
