Team update: Marc makes debut

Marc Owen

Ahead of tonight’s eagerly anticipated clash between the Vortex Hammers and the Coventry Bees, the Hammers have confirmed that reserve Steve Boxall has failed a morning fitness test and now hopes to return on Monday for the away leg at Brandon.

The Hammers have decided to promote from within tonight and will hand an official full debut to Marc Owen, who is currently in great form on loan to Eastbourne.  Coventry meanwhile, replace their injured reserve James Sargent, with Darryl Richtings.

Hammers Co-Promoter Jon Cook commented

“Neil Vatcher (and I guess Gary Havelock) have been burning the midnight oil going through the Elite Draft List, but with riders unavailability prevalent and in the circumstances, we feel it’s more exciting to hand Marc his debut.

It’s a momentous day for him and I’m sure all the Hammers fans will get behind our own asset, as they will the team,  in a meeting we expect to go down to the wire on the last dry day before the Bank Holiday weekend forecast of a wash out.”

The meeting parade is at 7.45pm, with the first race scheduled for 8pm. Tickets are available at the gate or via the online ticket store, which can be accessed via the Hammers homepage.
