Next up in our workshop chat is one of our returning Hammers David Mason:
New season – hopes and aims?
For Lakeside to have great season on & off the track. For me, personally, to stay away from injuries and improve my starting average and hopefully bang in a maximum or two (as I am overdue one now!)
What equipment are you running?
I run Jawa frames & GM Engines.
Best thing about being a speedway rider?
The adrenaline, the buzz, and also being in the public eye. I’ve had so many positives develop out of speedway – from appearing in EastEnders and other TV work, through to modelling (in my early days of course..)
From the speedway side of things also racing against some of the top riders and being a part of that scene – I remember one night at Stoke when I lined up with Greg Hancock, I was off gate 2, Billy Hamill was on gate 3 & Leigh Adams was off gate 4…… What an experience!!
David appearing in EastEnders as the Walford Lions
Without doubt, the injuries
How did you first start speedway?
I started at 9 years old (so about 10 years ago!!!) on the junior track at Arlington.
Rye House, Lakeside and Buxton (so all the technical ones)
Favourite ever rider?
Hans Nielsen and Leigh Adams. I was lucky enough to spend time with these two both on and off the track in my early riding days.
I have so many it’s crazy!!
Shout out to any sponsors:
A huge thank you to EWS & M Shuttlewood for coming on board this season – I am really hoping that someone else might also step forward and support me this season as I lost a majority of my sponsors since moving from Kent, please do get in touch via my website!
Message for the Hammers fans?
I am really looking forward to returning to Lakeside, so please do get behind me & the boys in our first full season of National League racing at The Raceway!
