Aces trumped by Vortex Hammers

The Vortex Hammers survived a series of falls, exclusions and lost points to run out winners by fourteen points against Belle Vue Aces in this Elite League clash.

It was Peter Karlsson who was involved in the evening’s most alarming spill, coming to a sudden and forceful stop in heat ten when he hit the fence down the backstraight. After some lengthy medical attention he returned to the pits but was unable to take any further part in the meeting.

The evening’s highlights came in heats four and twelve; the former when Hammers captain Davey Watt rode a superb race to overtake his former colleague Kauko Nieminen in excellent style. The latter was a simply superb final race when Lewis Bridger passed and re-passed Matej Zagar to take the crowning heat fifteen victory, with only a fall in heat six denying Bridger a full maximum.

There were many falls and spills on the night as the track caused the riders some difficulty. Bridger and Karlsson’s fall aside, the evening also saw spills for Seb Ulamek, Ulrich Ostergaard and Kevin Wolbert as the second turn in particular seemed to cut up. Nonetheless, the racing was competitive and Belle Vue caused the home side many problems with their quick starting prowess only to falter over the final few heats as the home side took control.
