Hammers suffer defeat

Lakeside coach Kelvin Tatum has demanded a response from his team after they went down 63-29 at Belle Vue.

The Vortex Hammers were dealt a major late blow when club No. 1 and captain Andreas Jonsson withdrew from the meeting just hours before start time through illness.

Tatum is keen to see his side return to winning ways when they host the Elite League leading Aces at the Arena Essex Raceway on Friday (first race 8pm).

“That result certainly stings a little,” Tatum admitted.

“I do believe our riders gave it plenty of effort, but the top and bottom of it is that we were totally outclassed by the better team on the night.

Andreas has been in super form for us and we were desperately disappointed when we heard he couldn’t travel.

We already faced a stiff task and that just left us with an even bigger mountain to climb.

We need to move on pretty quickly and make sure we get things back on track against them at our place on Friday.”
